How long does a lash lift last?
About six to eight weeks, until your lashes naturally shed and grow back. Here’s what a lash lift and tint involves, how to make it last, and why Calgarians love one for ski season.

The short answer
A lash lift lasts 6 to 8 weeks. The lift stays in each lash until that lash sheds, and lashes shed and regrow on a cycle of roughly that length, so the curl fades gradually as new, straight lashes grow in.
A lash tint usually lasts about 4 to 6 weeks, which is why the two are often booked together and refreshed at the same time.
What a lash lift is
A lash lift curls your natural lashes upward from the base, like a lasting eyelash curler. Your lash artist places a soft silicone shield on your eyelid, sets your lashes over it, and applies a lifting solution that softens the bonds in each lash. A setting solution then fixes the new shape. A tint afterwards darkens the lashes so they look longer and fuller without mascara.
It uses only your own lashes. There are no extensions, glue or false lashes involved.
What changes how long it lasts
- Your growth cycle. Everyone sheds lashes at a different rate. If yours cycle quickly, the lift will fade a little sooner.
- The first 24 to 48 hours. Water, steam and rubbing before the lift has set can relax the curl.
- Oil-based products. Oil-based makeup removers and heavy eye creams can soften the curl over time.
- Sleeping face down. Pressing lashes into a pillow every night can flatten them.
Lash lift aftercare
For the first 24 to 48 hours:
- Keep lashes dry: no washing your face with water over the eyes, no swimming.
- Skip steam rooms, saunas and hot yoga. If you’re a Mood. client, save the sauna for another visit.
- No mascara, and don’t rub your eyes.
After that:
- Brush lashes gently each morning with a clean spoolie.
- Use water-based makeup remover around the eyes.
- Skip waterproof mascara; it’s hard to remove and the scrubbing is hard on lashes.
- A lash conditioner or serum keeps lashes soft between appointments.
Do lash lifts damage your lashes?
A lash lift done well, on healthy lashes, and spaced at least 6 to 8 weeks apart doesn’t damage lashes. Problems come from over-processing: leaving the solution on too long, or lifting again before the last lift has grown out. That can make lashes dry or brittle. Your lash artist times the solution to your lash thickness, and will tell you if your lashes need a break.
A lash lift isn’t recommended if you have an eye infection, irritation, or recent eye surgery. Tell us about any sensitivities before your appointment; tint can be skipped if needed.
Why Calgarians love a lash lift
Calgary life is hard on mascara. There’s the ski hill, where mascara and goggles don’t mix; patio season and Stampede in July heat; lake weekends; and hot yoga all year. A lash lift and tint gives you lashes that look done when you wake up, with nothing to smudge or flake.
It also suits the dry air. There’s no mascara to scrub off every night, so lashes get a break from daily rubbing.
Lash lift or lash tint only?
- Lash tint only darkens lashes for about four to six weeks. It’s great if your lashes are already curly but fair.
- Lash lift with tint curls and darkens, for the biggest difference without makeup.

Questions we hear
How long does a lash lift appointment take?
About an hour at Mood, including the tint. Most of that time you’re lying down with your eyes closed.
Can I wear mascara after a lash lift?
Yes, after 24 to 48 hours. Most people find they don’t need it.
How soon can I get another lash lift?
Wait until the previous lift has mostly grown out, usually 6 to 8 weeks. Lifting again too soon is what causes damage.
